October 11 Chapter Meeting

Intro to Pregnancy and Pediatric Massage

Dr. Deanine Picciano, AP, LMT

In this eye opening and inspiring 2 hour presentation you will learn about the benefits of massage for women and children during pregnancy and the infant stage. Dr. Deanine will present current research about the benefits of massage and share her personal experiences in working with moms, babies and birth. The connection between mother and baby begins in the womb – enhancing that connection is something we can promote through therapeutic massage. Students will be acquainted with the stages of a pregnancy from both a traditional western understanding and an Oriental medical and energetic perspective. Deanine will present a history of birth and the delivery methods practiced around the world and the emerging trends. We will explore ways to enhance the pregnancy experience thru working with the 5 flows of energy and encourage women to connect with their pregnancy process in the womb thru breath work and abdominal massage. This presentation will dispel myth about pregnancy massage and propel you into a larger world view about who we are and what we are capable of and how you as a body worker can be a supporter in the movement. Participants will learn about the benefits of massage for premature infants, pre-crawling babies and children and what common health issues can be helped with massage.
